SURFING LEVELS REQUIREMENTS

OCEANSIDE QUIKSILVER & ROXY SURF SCHOOL

 

LEVEL 0 | Initiation

  • Not to have suffered any injury recently.
  • Not to have surfed ever before.
  • Not have taken a 10 hours initiation course.

LEVEL 1 | Beginner

  • Not to have suffered any injury recently.
  • To have undertaken, as a minimum, an introductory course of at least 10 hours in the previous six months.
  • To be familiar with and to respect the basic safety rules.
  • Basic theoretical knowledge of the equipment and of the marine environment.
  • To be able to get to your feet correctly in whitewater on a softboard, maintain a relaxed posture and reach the shore without falling.
  • To be capable of controlling fear with small waves (up to waist height).

LEVEL 2 | Intermediate

  • Not to have suffered any injury recently.
  • To have undertaken, as a minimum, an introductory course and a beginners course of 10 hours.
  • To have surfed a minimum of 50 hours in the last six months.
  • To be familiar with and to respect the basic safety rules and the rules for coexistence in the water.
  • Theoretical knowledge of the equipment and of the marine environment.
  • To be physically fit enough to cope with a session of an hour and a half with medium waves (up to chest height).
  • To paddle while remaining in the centre of an epoxy evolutive board, with chest slightly raised and legs together.
  • To be capable of reaching the breaker, avoiding the whitewater by means of the technique known as the turtle roll.
  • To be capable of catching waves without help.
  • To be able to get to your feet correctly in small waves (up to waist height) and to be capable of surfing waves without falling.
  • To be capable of controlling fear with medium waves (up to chest height).

LEVEL 3 | Advanced

  • Not to have suffered any injury recently.
  • To have undertaken, as a minimum, an introductory course, a beginners course, and an intermediate course of 10 hours.
  • To have surfed a minimum of 100 hours in the last 12 months.
  • To be familiar with and to respect the basic safety rules and the rules for coexistence in the water.
  • Theoretical knowledge of the equipment, of the marine environment, of the types of waves and of weather forecasts.
  • To be physically fit enough to cope with a session of two hours with big waves (over head height).
  • To paddle powerfully and swiftly on a shortboard.
  • To be able to reach a breaker, avoiding the whitewater by means of the technique known as the duck dive.
  • Good wave reading and correct timing when rowing the waves.
  • To be able to get to your feet perfectly in medium waves (up to chest height).
  • To maintain an attacking position on the board and to be capable of crossing the wave without falling.
  • To be capable of controlling fear with big waves (over head height).
